Serve on the Board

குழுவில் பணியாற்ற

MNTS is run entirely by volunteers. If you want to shape what Tamil culture looks like in Minnesota — and you are ready to do the work — we would like to hear from you.

Who can stand

  • Any member in good standing for six months or more may stand for the Board of Directors.
  • A Director who has served six months or more is eligible to fill a vacant Executive Committee position.
  • New board members are admitted by a unanimous Executive Committee vote and a 75% majority of the Board of Directors.

Two Director seats are reserved for LGBTQIA, Neurodiversity, and Youth representation (ages 18–30), and two are held by MNTS Tamil School leadership by virtue of position.

What the commitment involves

  • The board meets at least four times a calendar year, and attendance is expected — two consecutive unexcused absences end a board term automatically.
  • Every Executive Committee member oversees at least one key aspect of each MNTS event; every Director assists with at least one.
  • Board service is voluntary and unpaid. Members are reimbursed only for authorized out-of-pocket expenses, on submission of original receipts to the Treasurer.
  • Each board member signs a No-Conflict-of-Interest statement and acts in good faith.

The full rules are in our bylaws. Elections are held every two years in November, and new officers take office on January 1.
